Should You Review Your Insurance Policy?

Purchasing a Life Insurance policy is important. The time you spent doing research and choosing the right coverage is crucial but exhausting. So after months or maybe even years, you finally decided on the perfect policy for you. You now feel protected and paying off your premiums is the only thing left. But wait! Don’t be too relaxed just yet. Financial consultants say that you should review your investment portfolio including your life insurance policy at least every two years.

Reviewing your insurance policy on a regular basis will help you ensure that your policy is adequate to meet your changing needs. Aside from your financial needs, it is also wise to review your policy for any significant change in your life. This would include marriage, the birth of a child, buying a new house or even a change of career. These events in your life will significantly change your life and you have to make sure that your life insurance policy is enough to cover these changes. You might be overinsured or underinsured and not even realize it.

Here are other reasons for reevaluating your insurance policy:

1. Health Changes. Health improvement will give you the chance to get better rates and health deterioration may change the effect of your policy. If you have quit smoking, you can ask your insurance company to reevaluate your policy.

2. Financial crisis in the insurance industry or your insurance company may affect the investment component of your policy. Guaranteed interest rates may not be the case anymore especially if the stare insurance commissioner is called upon for rehabilitation.

3. New insurance policies. There are many insurance policies in the market today that might be of greater help to you. Upgrading or even changing your coverage can be a good choice depending on your needs.

Even without any significant changes in your life, it is always wise to review you insurance policy on a regular basis. Additional effort on your part will go a long way.
